iPad Pro Lettering on Procreate: My Process

In this post I want to share with you my process for creating these pieces I’ve been uploading to my instagram lately. The app I use is called procreate and it cost me like 5 dollars, I totally recommend it. It has this great feature that lets you export the video of your whole process. So let’s begin.

  1. First, I chose the quote. This one’s from the book “It Ends With Us” and seriousy, I loved this book so much, it’s one of my all-time-favorites, so yeah, I decided to use a quote from there. So, once you have the quote, you have to think what words are the most important and make them bigger than other words and use like 3 styles of letters. This is themost difficult part, so take all the time you need, erase if you need to, see what kind of letters fit best with your design, and once you’re happy with your sketch, here comes the most exciting part.

2. In this part you have to choose your color. In this case, the book cover was this kind of pink, so I wanted to have the same color. I have done other hand lettered pieces from movies like “Me Before You” so I used red and white, for The Perks Of Being a Wallflower I used green and stuff like that, the color is very important for these kind of pieces.

3. Once you have the color you want, go to your Layers and open another layer. Now we’re going to be working on the new layer. It’s very important to work on another layer, because If we forget and keep working on the skecth layer, it’s going to be really difficult to erase the pencil lines. Believe me, it happened to me and it took me forever to fix it. So yes, haha, LAYERS ARE IMPORTANT.

4. I always use the default brush that comes with the app, and from here, I just add some weight to my letters, (when the stroke goes up I dont add pressure and when it goes down I add a lot of pressure) So the apple pencil helps me a lot for that, and when I’m done with the lettering, I turn off the skecth layer and for the final part, I add some dots with the splashing option, (you can find it in your brushes section) and yeah, that’s my process.

Thank you for reading, If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.

Ale.
